This picture brought to mind the tales from the Knights of the Round Table. Taking a new twist in today’s age, Guinevere is no longer a pawn but a true Queen in this legend’s complicated game of chess.

What Goes Around

Smoke lingered in the air, the embers still warm. Gwen wrapped her cloak tighter in the chill, furtively gathering her tools as she made to leave. Stubborn tears clung to her lashes, but emotions now were of no use to anyone.

Glancing back to the clearing, she knew she’d done what she must. Art’s body was now ash and Lance awaited at the station with their tickets to freedom. She yearned for him, their love a beacon of hope in a twisted world.

Fingers of dread slowly released, her heart soaring, each footstep taking her toward a future filled with hope.

  1. Circle 9, the circle of treachery–defined in Inferno as fraudulent acts between individuals who share special bonds of love and trust… Maybe not such a happy ending after all?
Still, Gwen is a far more sympathetic protagonist than Lance is.
