Do you ever wonder how much is shared between animals and small children? I think that we have innate telepathic link with animals when we are young that somehow is lost as we get older. This picture reminded me of that.

The Lookout
– What do you see?
– Wait a minute – I need to get up to the next branch. There!
– Poppy? Can you see it?
– I’m looking. This is great. I can see right into Scruffy’s yard.
– C’mon. The ball! Do you see it in their yard?
– Nope. It’s gone. Like I said, it just disappeared.
– Ah man, that was my favorite ball, too.
– You have a two more right here! It’s OK.
– I guess. I just liked that one. It was red.
– Well, I tried. Now for the real problem. How do I get down?

What a neat thought to have a telepathic dialogue between the dog and girl. Too bad about her red ball, though!
Dear Erin,
I do believe children have a unique ability there. I think this particular dog and child (the ones in the photo) are working on a new plan for mischief. Cute story.

I think you are right… We once had a grumpy old marmelade cat… he usually shunned people… but when it came to kids he let them pull him around like a toy in a little wagon.. I think you are onto something here…
Perhaps we’re just not so “adult” in our thoughts and expectations when we’re young, putting us more on the level of animals (and I mean that in the nicest way possible.) Children and animals love passionately and often without thinking about it, something most adults don’t do (at least too often.)

Oh how many of us have watched our pets play with our children before they could talk but see them communicate. Great job of grasping that!
