I worked in a personal theme this week. For more information, see my post from last week here. For those of you who might wonder, Warner’s Safe Kidney & Liver Cure was a real thing. In fact, the bottle it was in are collectible today, priced about $200 on eBay. If they were full, I just might consider it.

Good for what ails you
“Excuse me, ma’am?”
Sizing him up as the next drunk she’d serve that night, Gloria arched her brow. “Help you?”
“Yes’m. I’m in dire need. Got any Warner’s Liver Cure?”
“What’re you talking about?” The stink on him was strong.
“Brown bottle. Everyone knows Warner’s.” His yellow eyes implored her to try.
“Alright – no promises.” Sighing, she turned, looking at the highest shelf. Dusty, forgotten, a brown bottle winked at her. “This it?”
“Amen! Cured at last.”
Reaching for it, he was gone, mist marking his spot.
Amazed, Gloria went back to wiping the bar. Couldn’t even try to make sense of that one.

Lol. She’d seen it all but not quite that… Fun take on the prompt.
Reblogged this on The Cheese Whines and commented:
This one is really a lot of fun.
Hallelujah!
Enjoyed that. Something new everyday and now a miracle cure. Great little piece of writing.
That was clever, well done
Thanks for commenting on mine too,. much appreciated

Nicely done Erin. Convincing.
That was fun, Erin. I want to find one of those bottles!

Hahah! I love the last line, The personality of the bartender really came through in this. That’s funny that there really was such a thing as that strange potion!
That’s the stuff I want! Impish little tale…
I find myself saying “clever” a lot this week. But if the shoe fits…clever story, Erin. Love the bit of history thrown in beside.

Hahahahaha! Yes, I can well imagine THIS happening! I like the “feel” of the read. Very good rhythm. I enjoyed it!
Save me a pint, will ya? Good job, Erin.
great one…:-)
Erin, glad you found my Warner’s Safe Cure Blog. WSC was a very popular cure in the 19th Century, although I doubt it ever cured anyone. Also saw you had done some triathlons. I am a runner and cyclist, but have not mastered the swimming part yet. Best regards!
Thanks, Steve! I know it is a real cure – I knew there was a product out there that was like “snake oil”.
I have done the triathlon circuit, but the best way to describe it is “non-competitive” – meaning I just do at it my pace. My swimming is slow but steady – I tell myself I’m a kid again and just playing in the water. That helps make it fun.
