Ibusuki-shi
Waking up on the futon, she wasn’t sure if the light meant early morning or late evening. After 24 hours of travel, her internal clock was completely turned around. Taking in the new surroundings, she was struck by sameness of some things, the newness of others. Even the air smelled unfamiliar, a sure sign she was far from home.
Regardless of the time of day, her bladder insisted she get up and find the toilet. From the kitchen below, she heard Mihoko singing. It was morning after all. She knew this would be a trip of a lifetime. Japan beckoned.

I like the careful and detailed way you set the scene in the first paragraph! Nicely written.
Hi Erin,
You did a great job of capturing the disorientating effect of travel. Perhaps now she can get on with the fun part of the trip. Ron
seems like time for a great adventure. well done.
newpillowbook is right, that first chapter really is quite extraordinary. Kudos on a lovely flash fiction story.
Nice – this has a good hopeful, energetic vibe to it (and I know that feeling of waking up and not knowing the time of day so well that I was right there immediately). Good stuff!
You conveyed the sense of being on the brink of a whole new experience here. I liked the scene setting. Nicely done.
“she was struck by the sameness…” I remember feeling that way on a trip to Israel. Parts of it could’ve been Missouri and others you knew you weren’t in Kansas anymore, Toto. Well done take on the prompt. I really enjoyed this one.
Japan. How exciting. Wish I could go on that journey of discovery with her. Nice work.
A beautiful evocation of the mystery of what is on the other side of those walls. Very well done.
Aloha,
Doug
